Always Trust Your Instincts

A month or so ago I kept finding the bird feeder in the front yard knocked off the stump, with all the seed gone.  We do get some pretty severe winds from time to time, certainly capable of blowing it off, but thinking it might be something else, I drilled a couple holes in the base and nailed it to the stump.

As you can see, my suspicions proved correct - I looked out in the yard this weekend to see the culprit licking seeds from the tray - cheeky monkey!

The really funny part was how upset the birds got - the two on top of the telephone pole were shrieking and dive bombing the fox the whole time, eventually driving him off.

We talked about "The Time Traveler's Wife" at Book Club tonight - great book and super job hosting Elaine!  Okay, almost midnight, off to bed for me - good to talk with you this afternoon Dad, cheers everyone!

That looks like one well fed fox!

That is hilarious! I am having the same troubles in Mississippi right now--finding my feeders empty and on the ground (from the tree) every morning. It may be a possum, or the squirrels, or the deer. I have them all. One critter has even figured out how to undo the catch on one feeder to lift the top, so I suspect squirrel or possum. I am pretty sure a deer cannot manage that!

Too funny! And I remember you saying that you do not feed the foxes. I guess that's where they get the saying "sly fox". Might have to move the feeder up higher huh?

p.s. Got the postcard - adorable!

If Foxy isn't "thumbing his nose" at Chico, he's raiding the bird feeders! I wonder what is next? At least through his shenanigans, you are able to capture some great photos for us to enjoy!

I also got my postcard related to the St. Baldrick's event. I felt like a kid again when we used to get mail specifically addressed to us for a birthday or special event! Getting a personalized "slow mail" was definitely a treat. Thanks for taking the time to send it.

I didn't think a fox would much care for birdseed but, clearly, that ain't the case.

I took some photos of the coonies feeding on my porch at night, last weekend. I got up two nights ago to see a BEAUTIFUL red fox feeding on cat food, but couldn't get my camera in time. Too skittish. But an absolutely GORGEOUS and FLUFFY tail!

Sooner or later I'm gonna capture him and post him in the blog!

GREAT shots, Steve!!
