Home Sweet Home

Not much posting this week, when I haven't been working or attending Fire Volunteer Academy, I've been packing.  Goldfish and I are starting a new chapter out here on the island, we bought a house and are moving out of company housing into a place of our own.  It was a tough decision - as any regular reader of the blog knows, I have a great view from the living room in my company housing, and I have a 90 second walk to my desk at work in the morning.

Despite all that, we're pretty thrilled with our new digs - 2 bedrooms, 1-1/2 baths, a hobby/laundry room, a beautiful entry room, and open living/dining room and kitchen all combined.  The huge hot tub is just gravy . . . .

So, since my company housing comes furnished, any spare moments I've had have been devoted to looking at furniture on-line.  Heaven help me . . . . . . .

Hei!
This looks like a very special home; I would have bought it, too.
Hope you will only share good times in it ☀

Wow! Congratulations--it is gorgeous! I am so happy for you. And just a wee bit envious of all that space. I hope you are hosting book club early in the new round! :)

WOW!!! At first I was thinking that was a house somewhere other than Unalaska!! Welcome to the neighborhood!? It was the Borders' house right?

Wow! If I knew homes on Unalaska were so great, I would have been there in a heartbeat! Congratulations on the very nice home!

Congratulations on your purchase. It looks beautiful. I am sure that you and Goldfish (alias my daughter in law) will enjoy it very much. You two are such a great couple and we love you both very much. Not having any furniture as yet the house must echo but I am sure that the two of you will fill it up with love and laughter. Beautiful home. I couldn't even imagine what you're going to have to pay to have furniture shipped there!

Cheers everyone and thanks for your kind words - we're excited to move but have nothing but fond memories of our company "nest". Life is so very simple when you live on the plant - no commute, no housing costs, no utilities, no maintenance, no snow removal, no worries. Home ownership out here is a whole different story and life has already gotten more complicated - for example, with Goldfish on call 24/7 during crab season, and me being a volunteer fire/ems guy, we now need two vehicles, just in case we both get called in at the same time. We're thinking the pluses will outweigh the minuses though . . . .

I cannot but tell you:

Your home looks EXQUISITE!

I myself am looking for a place to land but upon my final retirement.

Fornicalis is looking last.

I am considering Oregon and Washington.

Perhaps I need to consider UNALASKA ISLAND.

Steve - where have you been? Ah, out looking for that 2nd car - LOL! And of course, you need furniture too and there's so much going on out there on your island - busy, busy, busy......I'm off to the Bahamas this weekend - wish me luck that Erika doesn't damper our cruise.

And BZ - I hear Oregon is nice, but I've been to WA and if you haven't been - you need to go - that's where I want to be someday - somewhere close to AK so I can visit often!

The house is just lovely. My sincerest congrats to you and Goldfish. Yes, indeed, home ownership is at times a challenge, but I assure you, the rewards will be plentiful. Now you two can truly "nest".
Cheers!
