A Taste of Winter

We got our first real dusting of snow today that stuck around for a bit - all three of these boat pictures were taken in the last week but the top one I took at lunch today of the Western Dawn shows the snow all the way down to sea level on the mountains. Sorry about the Time Bandit, they were hauling butt up the channel and by the time I got the camera from the window sill they were almost past the house.
We're seeing more eagles around these days and I saw a fox crossing the road on the walk home from class tonight. It is hard to be upset with the coming of winter with the mountains looking so regal in their winter coats and the prospect of snowshoeing adventures with Chico and Goldfish!

Gosh, that first picture is exactly what I love about the water out west, it's blue, crisp and beautiful! I just can feel the cold weather coming through my computer. Thanks for the boat pictures!

I happen to think the shot of the Time Bandit is pretty cool. Thanks for giving us D.C. fans a little behind the scenes. You aren't working too hard now, are you?

You need to get over to my side of the island for some real fun. Margart Bay right in front of the Hotel has a nice coating of ice on it, but it is really clear and it has been quite amusing watching the ducks come in for a landing and getting quite upset as they get down there.

Great pictures! I love looking at the snow-covered mountains. Makes me want to start looking for paramedic jobs up that way! I wonder if I can convince the hubby that we need to move to Alaska?

Thanks for sharing and making today a little brighter.

Snow Update. It is not just a "taste" anymore. Just go to the webcams and take a look.
In Other Dutch Harbor News the Charity Auction for the Museum Raised $20,000 on Saturday night at the Grand Aleutian (My Hotel).
And I suffered my first Dutch Drop as I went @$$ over teakettles on Saturday night at my Apartment Taking out the trash and forgetting about all the Ice under the Snow.

Think Warm thoughts everyone. If the Wind picks up tonight we could use them out here!!!

Steve & Carlisle: this may be a silly question, but if I visit is the Grand Aleutian a nice place to stay, or is it the ONLY place to stay and they know they have you CAPTURED?

Well BZ, a little of both. There are only a couple places to stay in town, both owned by the same place that owns the Grand, so you really don't have much of a choice. With that said, the Grand has nothing to apologize for - they have good food, a friendly little bar, and the rooms are not bad when you consider the clientele consists of contractors away from home and fishermen behaving badly. For you, BZ, I'll thrown down a mattress somewhere and save you $120/night . . . .

And BZ One of the reasons they hired me with my Hilton Backbround was to "bring" the Grand Aleutian "up" to a new level. I am just starting the rennovations with an overhaul of the suites and instituting a "deep Clean" program on all the Public Spaces. The restaurant is REALLY good and actually has a good wine list for the area. PLUS if I get you a room facing Margartet's Bay you can see Steve's entire plant area off in the distance towards "town", as well as just the beautiful vistas that stretch for as far as the eye can see..............
