Okay, Maybe More Than A Taste of Winter

Normally out here winter doesn't really settle in to stay until December so I was reluctant to let go of fall. This year seems to be different . . . I've been sick the last few days so I've been able to watch wave after wave of snow showers roll up Illiuluk Bay with periods of bright sunshine in between. Today I decided to call an official end to the motorcycle riding season so I went on one last tour of the island. I've found that gentle riding on snow is not much different than aggressive riding on dirt - be easy on both the throttle and the brake and you'll be fine. With that said, some of the back roads out here are pretty steep and there just isn't enough traction to get to some some spots in the winter safely.
In the top photo, you can see horse tracks in the roadway - I was on the hunt for where the wild horses were spending their time. The bottom photo shows Summer's Bay - I just love how the colors of the bike match the colors of winter out here . . . .
Sorry I've been missing in action, we had company over - not really company, they were all dear friends - and I've been deliberately staying away from the camera and computer. I missed some amazing photos - an eagle on top of Little Bishop rock with the moon in the background comes to mind - but you have to step away once in awhile to remember why you're there in the first place, right?

I was wondering why you haven't posted. Sorry to hear you've been sick and hope you are now feeling much better! I thank and appreciate any pictures you post. You are my escape from reality and the hope that someday I move out west (because as you already know, I've been in FL much too long). Take care of yourself - it's so hard to overcome any illness in the wintertime.

Little bro,
Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. I can imagine that it was intense to keep you down. It's good to know that even though you are at the ends of the US, you still have an open door for one and all. I know my visit is a wonderful memory I think about daily.
love ya

Welcome Back! Chicken soup, hot liquids of any kind, lots of rest. End of nagging. I have missed your wit and window on the Aleutians. Did you find the horses or just the tracks? Been looking for you on the Office web cam, to no avail. Feel better and keep that camera clicking.

So sorry you've been sick! As they say "something going around", though I didn't realize it could reach so far!! ;-) My daughter was down w/a heavy chest cold and ear infection...
Was wondering where you were, so I'm glad to hear it wasn't some more serious. Make sure you're better....don't want a relapse >:-P
Like Lori, you're an escape. My sister turned me on to your site and I just LOVE it!! I would so badly like to give a year to live up there and experience how different life is. Course, my cousin went for a year and she's been there 10 now!! You never know.
Take care of yourself first!! Your followers understand.
and thank you for all you've given us to date. :-)
