There is lots of flat light out here in the winter where the snow, the ice and the sky all blend together, you can barely tell where one ends and the other begins and the eye searches for a break in the monochrome landscape, searching out the dark spots - the water, the odd rock rising above the snow, or a stove-in skiff on the shore of Captain's Bay. You almost have to include something dark in the frame to give substance and scale to the scene . . . .
Hope. We all have it.

Hope gives us the capacity to find a methodology or strategy for making it
to a point where we want to end up. Having hopes and dreams gives us an
optimist...

Just got caught up on the blog. Love the shot. You seem to make even the plainest thing, like an old boat, look good. Looks like it's getting pretty cold there. Got ice on the lake and everything.
Oh ya, I love the Unalaska Fire Department shirt. Glad you got me that. As the shirt I bought didn't mention Unalaska. I still like it though, I know where it came from.
Happy Birthday to me! Look forward to a call from you. I should be here in the evening.
Happy Birthday, Zack from Aunti! I still enjoy the picture of you with my girls in Grandma's kitchen when you were just a babe.
Ditto on the picture, your dad's an amazing man.
love ya
And you do it so well, Steve.... what an awesome sense of peace and quiet!!! The tranquility is almost palpable!
You capture the quiet so well. In the little snow we had down here in Humboldt, I noticed how hard it was to capture the look of the snow unless I had something dark in the frame. I tended to try and edge the pic in dark but I like the dark all huddled together here as if seeking warmth from the snow. I'll try that if it snows again this year.
Thanks.
Your pictures are always great Kym, thanks for sharing them!
