This is a tough time for photography is Alaska - the days are very short, even as far south as Unlaska. It's dark when you go to work and dark when you get out so that noon dog walk is about the only chance you get these days. Despite all that, I am ready for winter. I'm ready for the weather to stop being coy, giving us a little snow and then stealing it away with a hard rain. I'm ready to snowshoe and be back on a more equal footing with my dog when it comes to playing Find the Fox. And tonight, for the first time, it felt like maybe winter was here to stay . . . . .
PS - it's frozen mud on our Honda's rocker panels . . . . . .

Good one - definitely got me on that one! Thought maybe we were going to have a contest this morning. Well, at least I can say that we are having more "cold" days this fall/winter than in many previous years. Yesterday's morning low was 45, but this morning we're back in the 60's. I just wish for a cold Christmas day!
I'm supposed to get flurries and then snow this weekend and a good portion of next week in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I WILL be posting photos of it.

The Wind was not too bad though today, so I had no problem taking a little hike over to my bench on the other side of Arch Rock to watch the waves after dinner.
God, I love this place!!!
You lucky folks!

P.S.
However, I'll bet alcohol sales aren't shabby and the Elbow Room still does well.
The Elbow Room is no More. The Young Ladies who bought it a few years ago, ended up selling the liquor license to Unisea about a year ago and it shut down. Now the two main (and possibly only) Bars on the Island are the Unisea Sports Bar and Cape Cheerful at the Grand Aleutian. Well, and the Chart Room has a Tiny one too. I do love working For Unisea!!
Don't forget the airport bar (a faorite for many, to watch all the comings and goings), liquor sales at Dutch Harbor Fast Food, and Peking. Unisea doesn't quite have a monopoly yet . . .
Thanks Steve & CB: I shoulda known. No cheesy bars anymore, packed with fist-fights?

Neat picture! It actually sneauxed here in Houston , Texas last night. We got around 2" ,and I'll be darned if it didn't stick for about 3 hours...LOL
Cheers!
Finally reading about all the hot gossip on the island, so this is what E has been talking about. Man, my dog gets around! And what's with the smack talk about Kali? Are the tomato flowers blooming yet? It is wickedly cold and windy down here in Seattle. Can't wait to get back up north and start snow shoeing...well, maybe I can...
Nothing but love for Kali - we all miss you on the island, no blooms on the tomato plants yet - hurry home!
