Normally, ice is white in color due to air bubble inclusions introduced during the freezing process. I have to think there is more at work for this very thin skim of ice on the creek emptying into Morris Cove to be so very opaque . . . any ideas?Life has been a blur on the island with class and work and the holidays fast approaching. We had a doozy of a wind storm today, even by Dutch standards - I bet we had gusts approaching 100 knots at times with pretty long periods of sustained gale force. I was in class for most of it; by the time I got to walk the dog tonight things had calmed down considerably.

Could it be frozen solid blown snow? Looks like large crystals where the sun is striking. Who knows what strangeness lurks under Morris Creek? The Raven perhaps?
It looks like a great place to pick up rocks for cutting. Sort of like a brook jewelry store with unfinished jewelry.
Hummm, I will wager that it is taht color due to the wind "airating" the water as it is freezing making it more cloudy than normal, Especially when the water is cold to start with.

If you want Crystal Clear ice cubes Fill your trays with HOT water before you place them in the freezer. The Additional time it takes to cool allows the air to dissipate from the cubes allowing the formation of "Clear" ice, with no air bubbles.
Yeah, I know it sounds weird, but you have to know these things when you work for Hilton and a "guest" (the mentally deranged Scientologist Tom Cruise) Demands Clear Ice Cubes, because they are more "Pure"

Being from Texas, I know absolutely nothing about ice except that it comes from the fridge in cubes..LOL. I have no idea what caused the ice to form that way, but it is a lovely picture.

I had to think about this 24 hrs before posting and I too (before reading CB's blog) felt that it has something to do with the "air" in the water. Steve, your pics and blogs make me think all day (and night) long! And CB, you're too funny about TC, but right on I'm sure!
