For those of you who have not have the honor of meeting Chico, The Wonder Dog I am sorry. Your lives are just a little less happy and blessed than those of us who have. He is just a Darn Good Dog.
In community news
Today – At 6:00 PM the Unalaska Raiders Junior Varsity Volleyball team will be competing against the “Coasties” (I am assuming this is a Coast Guard team) and at 7:00 PM the Varsity team is challenging a community team, at the Unalaska High School Gym.
Tomorrow (11/22/08) – Your children might enjoy story time at the Library. Linda Ellsworth will be reading Snowmen at Night and Snowmen at Christmas at 2:00 PM. An activity and treat will follow.
The 30th Annual Arts & Crafts Fair will be held in the Unalaska High School small gym on November 29, 2008 from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM. There are always delicious treats and beautiful arts and crafts at this terrific event. This is a great fair to find unique gifts!
The Parks, Culture, and Recreation Department is holding an Open House on December 4, 2008:
Aquatics Center 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM
Community Center 6:45 PM to 7:15 PM
Library 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM
Their new winter brochures will be available. This will also provide an opportunity for community members to check out the expansion plans and to meet the staff.
A Holiday Craft Sale will be held at the Unalaska Senior Center on December 4, 2008, from Noon to 4:00 PM.
Miracle at 64 Eleanor Drive (Library) – On December 13, 2008, at 1:00 PM see a Grinch play, and then enjoy cookie decorating, face painting, ornament making, and a story with Santa and friends. Background music will be played by Linda Lybeck-Robinson and students. Pictures with Santa will be taken at 2:00 PM.

Ok Man, you can't just keep rubbing your life in our faces.. We (at least ME) are very envious of your locale... I realize the winters are harsh, but the Alaskan way of life is quickly becoming a target for my future.
I am not sure when I will be up there, but if things hold together in the financial realm, I might be up there by 2010.

Thanks for your comments on my Blog. If you would see the size of Some of the fishermen who Come in to town you would not have to question that. If you are a deadlist Catch Fan from I think from the first Season there is the captain of the F/V Billiken. He is like 8 feet tall an a good sized guy I will be posting something on the Grand Aleutian Gift Shop either tonight or tomorrow if the weather keeps being noncondusive to hiking, with a picture of some of the "Wares" we carry.

Unisea pays for your flight, housing, well everything, including relocation costs. And they are ALWAYS looking to fill manager level positions, if you have any experience in manfacturing or related fields.
If not Unisea then the City or just about any other business is Always looking for workers. Unemployment here is measured in NEGATIVE figures, and there are many people who have two jobs, just too keep up with demand. It s Isolated, and the weather is not the best in the world, though I love it, but it is amazing here.

Bushwack, did you have a certain region of Alaska in mind? I've been up here 20 years now and there is quite a range.
Great pics! I love seeing pictures of Chico. I couldn't live without a dog and I too have been blessed to have great dogs (usually Golden Retrievers). I now have a Border Collier, which thinks she's going to be an iditarod dog someday!
