The Berries Are Here!

I'm starting to see a few more vehicles on the side of the road, drivers off in the bushes loading up on nature's bounty. This island is truly a berry picker's paradise - Goldfish came home from walking Chico last night with this haul and tonight we're both meeting up after work to pick to start loading up the freezer. I eat local berries 3 or 4 times a week, year round, and the best benefit is the gathering!

That brings back memories of picking berries in Ohio - of course, the berries were black, and most were gone before the freezer door could be opened, but still...

Those sure look good.

Hi Steve, I was wondering if you could help me with something. First of all, I really enjoy your blog. My son is a commercial fisherman in Dutch Harbor and through your blog I have an understanding of what it is like up there. What I need help with is the following. My son's birthday is this week and I'm trying to think of something to get him through a Dutch Harbor business, maybe a gift certificate for a restaurant or something like that. Are there any restaurants there that would be a good place to call and arrange for him to have a gift certificate waiting for his birthday? Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
