Bracing Against the Last of Winter

This has been a tough week out here, mentally - we are back in full winter mode after a tantalizing early break-up and near spring last month, and the volcano is still blowing on and off, making it difficult to get our crews home for their season break.

I was watching this raven being blasted by the wind the other day and I realized I never knew their feathers were light colored under the black, and I marveled at the fine banding on their feet and legs.  I was also amazed the raven could keep its perch, given the wind velocity.  Isn't it interesting when we see new aspects of familiar things?

  1. Ah Steve, I'm sorry this week has been so trying. I know that the eruption has really set things askew out there. However, I do love your observing eye. I'm fascinated by Ravens, they're such clever, playful birds! ...Tricksters.

I wind changes for you all soon...literally!

  2. Man, you can CLEARLY see that Mr Raven is being BLASTED! Oddly enough, I have HUGE ravens up where I live in the mountains. I hear and see them when I walk!

  3. I love those little details that seem to escape us unless we are really concentrating on the moment.

Have fun at book club--we didn't make it out today but trying again tomorrow and hoping the volcano and weather both cooperate. :)
